Man arrested after Porsche ploughs into estate agents in late night smash

A Porsche smashed into the front of an estate agents in Wigan, late in Friday night.

Dramatic pictures from the scene show the white Porsche 911 embedded in the front of a shop in Market Street, Standish.

The luxury car appeared to have smashed through a set of railings before colliding with the building at the junction with Preston Road.

Another image shows the damage to the window of Winnard & Brown estate agents.

Police arrested the driver at the scene and he was taken to hospital as 'a precaution'.

His injuries are not believed to be serious.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing police officers and firefighters at the scene, at about 11pm.

Jake Ruddick was working just down the road from the scene when he heard a 'big bang'.

He ran outside to see what had happened.

"The car took the railings out fully," he said. "Even bricks from the path had come out.

"The driver was out of the car and walking about. He looked in shock.

"There were a fair few people out looking."

Craig Winnard, the executive director at Winnard & Brown, said the first he heard about the crash was when he received a picture on WhatsApp.

He said he felt 'grateful' that no one was seriously hurt in the incident.

"It could have been a lot worse," he said. "With it being a Friday night, there would have been a lot of people on foot travelling between pubs.

"We had people coming into the shop this morning, so we have had to continue. We got a boarding company out and swept up the glass."

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "We were called at 11.25pm last night to Market Street, in Standish.

"It was a road traffic collision where a car had gone into a building.

"A man was taken to hospital as a precaution. He has also been arrested for a road related offence."
