Man arrested after police stop suspected stolen car in Blyth

A man has been arrested after police pursued a suspected stolen car in Northumberland.

Police were called to the Blyth area and stopped the car in Taylor Street.

Witnesses said there were at least six police cars and a helicopter at the scene at around noon on Wednesday.

A 31-year-old man remains in custody after being arrested on suspicion of driving while disqualified.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: "At 12.31pm today (Wednesday) we attended Taylor Street in Blyth and successfully stopped a suspected stolen vehicle.

“An occupant inside the vehicle, a 31-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of driving while disqualified.

"He remains in police custody at this time and enquiries are ongoing.”
