Man arrested after 'police officer assaulted' at Glasgow rally

A MAN has been arrested after a police claimed that an officer was assaulted at an anti-immigration rally in Glasgow.

Hundreds of people gathered at the city's Buchanan Street Steps on Saturday where a "unity rally", organised by convicted domestic abuser and anti-immigration podcaster John Watt, was taking place.

The demonstration was met with a largescale counter-protest, with the two groups separated by lines of police officers and metal railings.

Signs on the opposing side included "refugees welcome", "stop the far right" and "stop racist Reform UK".

On Sunday, police said a 47-year-old man was arrested in connection, claiming it was with the assault of a police officer during the protests.

Officers said enquiries into the incident are ongoing.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “A 47-year-old man was arrested in connection with an assault of a police officer during a protest on Buchanan Street, Glasgow on Saturday, September 20, 2025.
