Man arrested after 'police in riot gear' called to Salford street in early hours

A man has been arrested after 'police in riot gear' were called to a Salford street in the early hours of the morning.

Officers were sent to Castle Way, in Swinton, at about 3.30am on Wednesday, following reports of a disturbance.

An eyewitness said a man had been throwing items out of the window of a property on the street.

They added: "He started to smash his flat up. He broke all his front windows.

"Police in riot gear turned up at about five. He was shouting for negotiators.

"He was shouting he's going to blow all of the block up by turning the gas on.

"He also shouted that he had a gun and then was waving a saw about and threatening people with it from the window."

A police vehicle remained on the residential street on Wednesday afternoon.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "Officers were called to Castle Way, in Swinton, at 3.30am yesterday to reports of a disturbance.

"A 40-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of affray and criminal damage."
