Man arrested after police found suspected meth lab in Salford released under investigation

A man arrested after police uncovered a suspected meth lab in Salford has been released under investigation.

Police found items 'associated with production of methamphetamine' at a house in Field Street, in the Chimney Pot Park area of Langworthy.

The property is one more than a 349 former terrace properties turned into 'upside down' homes by developer Urban Splash in 2007.

They were saved from the bulldozer and redeveloped with bedrooms downstairs and kitchens upstairs.

They were transformed as part of a an £88m regeneration of the Langworthy estate following a huge exodus in the 1990s because of high crime levels and anti-social behaviour.

Young professionals - thought to include BBC, ITV and other MediaCityUK workers - snapped up the properties.

Police are now trying to establish whether the property that was raided was lived in or just used for the suspected production of crystal meth.

The items were recovered by officers at 6.20am on Friday (December 13).

A 34-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs has been released under investigation.

A source told the Manchester Evening News large quantities of chemicals, which usually require experts to abstract, were found.

A forensic tent was erected in the street outside the property.

The authorities have assured there is no threat to residents.

A statement released by Greater Manchester Police said: "Shortly after 6.20am Friday, December 13, 2019 police attended a property on Field Street, Salford and found a number of items which are suspected to be used in the production of methamphetamine.

"Officers remain at the scene working with the fire service to recover the items.

"A man aged 34 has been arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs."
