Man arrested after police discover 'substantial' cannabis farm in late night raid

Police found a 'substantial' cannabis farm hidden inside a building after a late night raid.

Officers dismantled the farm and arrested one man after discovering the set up inside a house on Elmridge, in Skelmersdale near Wigan on Thursday night, August 12.

The man was arrested on suspicion of production of cannabis and for abstracting electricity, LancsLive reports.

The set up had an complicated system of electrical wiring and the meter had been bypassed, officers said.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: "Officers from the Neighbourhood Task Force and Immediate Response have today been dismantling a substantial cannabis farm that was discovered overnight on Elmridge.

"The set up included an elaborate electrical wiring system which included a meter bypass.

"A male has been arrested on suspicion of production of cannabis and for abstracting electricity.

"Community intelligence is vital in tackling drugs.

"If you have any information, you can report this online via the Lancashire Police website or report it anonymously to Crimestoppers."
