A man has been arrested after a police pursuit through Newcastle ended in a collision.
The car involved ended up crashing into the garden wall of a home on Benton Road and has caused significant damage.
Police say the driver failed to stop for police on Tuesday night and a 28-year-old man is now in custody.
Shortly before midnight, officers say they signalled for a driver of a Volkswagen to stop as it drove through Heaton.
The car continued and headed towards Four Lane Ends followed by police before coming to a stop at the wall near to the Tesco Extra petrol station.
Firefighters were called to the scene but a spokesperson for the fire service said they were not needed and left the scene.
A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: "Just before 11.40pm on Tuesday police signalled for a VW Caddy van to stop as it travelled through Heaton.
"The vehicle ignored police and made off around the terraces near Chillingham Road before heading towards Four Lane Ends on Benton Lane.
"The vehicle then hit a kerb before colliding with a garden wall near to the Tesco Extra petrol station.
"The 28-year-old driver was arrested by police and remains in police custody. Thankfully nobody was injured during the pursuit.”
