Man arrested after pensioner knocked unconscious in unprovoked attack in Croydon

A man has been arrested after a pensioner was knocked unconscious in an unprovoked assault in south London.

Police issued an appeal after the 75-year-old victim was attacked in Whitehorse Road on January 23.

The man was walking down the road with his wife at the time and has been left with “physical and mental trauma”, DC Matthew Southwold previously said.

A 26-year-old man was arrested on Friday on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.

He was taken to a south London police station where he remains. Enquiries are continuing, Scotland Yard said in a statement on Friday morning.
