Man arrested after pedestrian mowed down by car 'deliberately' driven at him

A pedestrian escaped serious injury after he was 'deliberately' mowed down by a car.

A 25-year-old man is recovering in hospital following the incident in Denton just before midnight on Sunday.

Police have arrested a 35-year-old man on suspicion of section 18 assault.

Bowden Street in Denton was cordoned off by police following the incident at 11.55pm on Sunday following reports that a car was deliberately aimed at a pedestrian.

The incident is thought to have happened outside the Denton Liberal Club building, near an estate agent's offices.

Forensics experts were sent to the scene to look for clues and a police tent was erected in Bowden Street..

Police have arrested a suspect and he remained in police custody on Monday afternoon, being questioned by detectives about an alleged serious assault.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: “At around 11.55pm on Sunday 17 May 2020, police were called to reports of a collision between a car and a pedestrian on Bowden Street, Denton.

“Officers attended and a 25-year-old man was taken to hospital, where he remains with minor injuries.

“A 35-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault. He remains in police custody for questioning.”
