Man arrested after motorcyclist airlifted to hospital following crash

A man has been arrested following a road collision which left a motorcyclist in hospital.

Emergency services and the air ambulance were scrambled to Wealcroft in the Leam Lane area of Gateshead on Wednesday.

The incident involved a motorcycle colliding with a car at around 2.30pm.

A man in his 50s was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead.

His injuries were described as serious but are not thought to be life-threatening.

A man has now been arrested after he attended Forth Banks police station.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “We can confirm a 21-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving after attending Forth Banks yesterday.

"He has since been released under investigation pending further enquiries.

"The motorcyclist remains in hospital while any witnesses to the collision, or anyone with information about the collision, are continuing to be asked to contact police on 101 quoting log 652 12/08/20.”
