Man arrested after Midlothian town tagged 55 times causing £10,000 of damage

A 25-year-old man has been arrested after buildings across a Midlothian town were tagged with spray paint causing more than £10,000 in damage.

A meeting of Midlothian Police and Fire and Rescue Board this week heard the arrest followed 55 separate incidents of tagging on buildings in the Bonnyrigg area last month.

Local area commander James Robertson said Midlothian Community Action Team had carried out extensive investigations into the incidents which had been reported across the town.

A police spokesperson said: "A 25-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with a number of vandalism offences that took place in the Bonnyrigg area in October.

"He is due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court at a later date and a report has been forwarded to the Procurator Fiscal."

Meanwhile the board also heard that Midlothian Council's own protective services team had also sent a report to the procurator fiscal over a sole trader who had taken around £17,000 from 15 customers for work which was not carried out.
