Man arrested after machete threat in Birkenhead street

A man has been arrested after allegedly threatening another man with a machete.

Police rushed to the scene after receiving reports of a man swinging a machete on Singleton Avenue around 9pm in Birkenhead last night (April 22).

A 42-year-old man from Formby was arrested on suspicion of possession of a knife/sharp pointed article in a public place.

Officers recovered the machete which is now being forensically examined.

Det Insp Mike Dalton of Merseyside Police said: "We are committed to reducing and educating people about knife crime, and will continue to work closely alongside our partners to help get this message across, acting on all information provided by our communities. 

“If you are caught carrying a knife, you not only risk being put behind bars, you are putting yourselves and others under serious risk of harm.”
