Man arrested after Loop Line sexual assault on teenage girl

Detectives investigating a sexual assault on a teenage girl in Orrell Park on Monday (21 September) have arrested a man.

The 30-year-old man from Aintree was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and has been taken into custody for questioning.

The teenage victim was reported to have been walking along the Loop Line off Helsby Road in Orrell Park at around 4.30pm on Monday, when she was grabbed by a man who reportedly sexually assaulted her and made threats towards her.

She was left extremely shaken up by the ordeal, police said.

The incident took place just off a section of the Loop Line, between the Helsby Road railway bridge and the railway bridge that leads users between gardens of homes on Ealing Road and Church Avenue before the path crosses over Warbreck Moor.

That area was flooded by police on Thursday afternoon, with officers on quad bikes, horseback and bicycles patrolling the route.

Detectives also appealed directly to the public for information, and a mobile police station was in place at the junction of Helsby Road and Caldy Road.
