Man arrested after Liverpool bomb scare

The moment a man is led out of a building by police in Liverpool after a bomb scare

A man has been arrested in Liverpool following a bomb scare in a city centre office block.

Merseyside police said the man had been taken for questioning after Silkhouse Court in Tithebarn Street was evacuated on Friday morning.

“No one has been injured during the incident and the site will remain cordoned off until a search of the premises has been completed,” a police spokeswoman said. “Thanks to residents, businesses and motorists for their continued patience.”

Emma Carey, a family law solicitor working on the 13th floor of the building, told the Liverpool Echo most people initially thought it was a routine fire drill when the alarm sounded shortly after 10.30am.

It was only as she and her colleagues from MSB Solicitors got out of the building and saw large numbers of police arriving on the scene that they became concerned that it was not a drill.

She said: “We moved to Exchange Flags to make sure everybody was accounted for and then people became a little bit frightened, and saying ‘It’s a bomb. It’s a bomb.’”
