Man arrested after laser attack on police helicopter in Swansea

Police have arrested a man after a laser attack on a police helicopter in Swansea.

The 29-year-old man was traced to an address in Portmead after the pilot of the National Police Air Service was subjected to a "continuous laser attack" on Tuesday night.

The police helicopter was out looking for a vulnerable person in Swansea when the man repeatedly shone a laser right at them.

The NPAS tweeted: "Whilst searching for a vulnerable person in Swansea we were subjected to a continuous laser attack causing a danger and unnecessary distraction."

Shining a laser at a helicopter can cause temporary flash blindness to the pilot or a "glare effect" which interferes with the pilot's vision.

A spokesman for South Wales Police confirmed they had traced the suspect and said: "A 29-year-old man from Portmead has been arrested and currently remains in police custody."
