Man arrested after injured woman found at Dunkeld Bridge

Police have arrested a man in his 40s after a woman with multiple injuries was discovered in Dunkeld.

The discovery happened around 1.30am on Tuesday morning and led to a multi-vehicle police response.

In the darkness on December 3, a woman was found close to Dunkeld Bridge, where the 1850 stone crossing begins, on the A9 side of the river.

A part of the residential area near the community orchard, known as Little Dunkeld, was cordoned off and as many as five Police Scotland vehicles were noted at the scene by residents on Tuesday morning, searching the bank below the bridge.

Police revealed yesterday a man has been arrested for an alleged assault .

A statement issued by a Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police Scotland can confirm that a 43-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an alleged assault of a woman at Dunkeld Bridge.

“The incident happened around 1.30am on Tuesday, December 3.

“The woman was taken to hospital for treatment to non-life threatening injuries.

“Inquiries are ongoing to establish the full set of circumstances.”

As daylight came on Tuesday, police centred several hours of investigation on a wooded area at the foot of Dunkeld Bridge.

Structural contractor Gavin Park of Geo-Structural was conducting repair work on the famous arched bridge over the Tay.

He was based on the town side of the river.

He told the PA: “We spotted a lot of police activity across the water when we came in to work at 8am on Tuesday.

“They had an area taped off and they appeared to be looking in the trees.

“I hope she is OK.”

At the Atholl Arms Hotel, staff member Alan said he saw a police car on-site when he came in for the early shift at work.

He said: “The first police vehicle was there when I got in at 6.30am on Tuesday and that one was joined by a support unit and several others as the morning went on.”
