Man arrested after high-speed chase by River Clyde

A man has been arrested and charged after a high-speed chase by the River Clyde.

Police tried to stop a vehicle on West Street in Tradeston, south of the river, before it sped off, last night (Wednesday).

The vehicle was later found on Congress Way in Finnieston, and a man was then rescued from the river.

A 45-year-old has since been been arrested and charged in connection with drug and road traffic offences.

A Police Scotland statement released today said: "Around 9.20pm on Wednesday, 11 December police attempted to stop a vehicle on West Street in Glasgow.

"The vehicle failed to stop for officers and a short pursuit took place. The van was located on Congress Way and a man was subsequently rescued from the River Clyde nearby.

"The 45-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with drug and road traffic offences.

"He is due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Thursday, 12 December 2019 and a report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."
