Man arrested after gun fired at house with people inside

A man has been arrested after a gun was fired at a house while people were inside.

Police were called to Wyresdale Road in Aintree on Saturday, April 22 at around 12.25am after it was reported the front window of a house was shot at. Officers said it was consistent with a shotgun being fired twice.

There were people inside the house, but there were no reported injuries. Police also believe there was a group of men on electric bikes in the area at the time of the incident.

In an update today, a spokesperson for the force said a 22-year-old man from Kirkby was arrested on Monday, May 8 on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

He remains in police custody. Three other men from Kirkby, aged 19, 21 and 22, who were arrested last week on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, have been given conditional bail pending further enquiries.

Detective Inspector Peter McCullough said: “The investigation is still in the early stages and we are appealing for anyone with information to come forward. While no injuries have been reported, discharging a firearm is extremely reckless and dangerous. I would like to reassure the local community that we are working to find those responsible and bring them to justice.

“We have a zero-tolerance approach to any person involved in the use of, possession of, and storage of firearms, and we will relentlessly pursue anyone involved in this type of awful criminality.

“We are committed to taking weapons off our streets and, rest assured, if you tell us about any suspected possession or offences we will take action. We pro-actively investigate serious organised crime in Merseyside, including the use of guns and the supply and distribution of drugs.

“We will always take immediate action to incidents involving guns and we are actively working to make Merseyside a safer place to live and work. Information from the public is vital if we are to breakdown the organised crime groups who bring misery to our streets.

“This incident took place in a residential area so there are likely to be people who may have CCTV or smart doorbell footage that could have captured something to help our investigation.

“I urge those who live in the area to check your CCTV or dashcam for footage taken from this night to help us find those responsible.”

Although police have made these arrests, they are still appealing for information about this incident. If you have any CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage or information, please DM the social media desk on Twitter @MerseyPolice or Facebook ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre’ quoting incident reference 23000337602. Alternatively contact Crimestoppers UK anonymously on 0800 555 111.
