Man arrested after gun and ammunition found in Glasgow car

A man has been arrested after a gun and ammunition were found in a car in Glasgow city centre.

Officers from Police Scotland stopped and searched a black Mazda 6 car on Sauchiehall Street at around 6.30pm on Friday, August 21.

Cops found 'a firearm and ammunition' following an extensive search.

Shocking photos show armed officers scrambling to the scene as weekend revellers watched on.

A 55-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the find.

He is due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Monday, August, 24.

A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

One hour later, as part of the same investigation, armed police pulled over a red Volkswagen Golf in Neilston Road in Paisley, Renfrewshire.

No items were recovered and no arrests were made.

Police are urging anyone with information to get in touch.

Detective Inspector Martin McGhee of Police Scotland's Specialist Crime Division said: "As part of an ongoing investigation, officers from Police Scotland have recovered a firearm and ammunition.

"I would urge anyone who may have information about the criminal use of firearms to contact Police Scotland on 101 or, alternatively, the charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
