Explosion at Govan flats treated as attempted murder after man seriously hurt

Yesterday the blast injured a 26-year-old man and a woman, aged 30, inside the property.

The man was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary where he remains in a critical condition with burn injuries.

The woman was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment to minor injuries. She has since been discharged.

Superintendent Craig Smith, Greater Glasgow Police Division, said: "A 26 year old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and enquiries are continuing."

"Enquiries carried out so far have revealed that the explosion was as a result of a deliberate act within the flat."

"The flat has been significantly damaged, however, the impact of the blast did not affect other properties in the block and the 23 people who had been evacuated have been allowed back into their homes."
