Man arrested after dramatic police chase through south Bristol

A man was arrested after a dramatic police chase through south Bristol yesterday (April 7).

The driver failed to stop for patrolling officers in the area at around 5pm and then led police on a 15 minute chase around Knowle.

After stopping the vehicle, officers found the driver was in possession of a number of Class A and Class B drugs.

An eyewitness described the chase to Bristol Live.

He said: "They was chasing a black BMW, he overtook me on Whitchurch Lane.

"There were about 10-12 police cars behind him I followed it all to Bishport Avenue."

Police officers managed to stop the driver at around 5.15pm on Vowell Close.

Drivers should only be out and about on Bristol's roads for essential travel so key emergency services can concentrate on dealing with the coronavirus pandemic.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police told Bristol Live: "A driver failed to stop for patrolling officers in Knowle West just after 5pm yesterday (Tuesday 7 March).

"Officers followed the vehicle, which came to a stop in Vowell Close at about 5.15pm.

"A 45-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop when required by police, plus possession of class A and B drugs. He remains in custody."
