Man arrested after 'domestic assault' in the Adelphi Hotel

A man was arrested this morning after a woman was reportedly hit in the face in a shocking domestic assault in the Adelphi Hotel.

One police van could be seen parked up in the pull-in area at the entrance to the Ranelagh Street hotel as commuters made their way into the city centre.

The police presence was in response to a reported domestic abuse incident in once of the rooms inside the hotel.

In a brief statement shared with the ECHO , a spokeswoman for Merseyside Police said: "It was reported at 5.45am that a woman had been struck to the face in a room inside the hotel.

"Officers attended and a 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault. He has been taken to a police station in Merseyside to be interviewed."

Merseyside Police added that potential witnesses have been spoken to and enquiries are ongoing.

The sprawling hotel has over 400 rooms spread over six floors - all set within an imposing Grade II listed building.
