A man has been arrested following an incident in Cork city over the weekend which left four people injured.
A row broke out in the garden of a home in Mahon at around 7pm on Saturday evening and one man in his seventies was cut on the hand with a knife.
Another man believed to have been involved in the altercation then attempted to leave the house in his car but ran into two others who had been at the house.
A local woman who was just walking by the house at the time was also hit by the vehicle, Cork Beo reports.
Gardai were quickly on the scene and tried to talk the driver of the car into exiting the vehicle.
However, he locked the doors and the vehicle collided with a patrol car which was blocking his exit.
It's believed Gardai were forced to draw truncheons and smash the window of the vehicle, before taking the keys from the car and removing the driver.
A man in his 40s was arrested and is expected to appear in Cork District court today.
A Garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí are investigating an incident that occurred at approximately 7pm on Saturday 9th November 2019 in Mahon, County Cork.
"A male in his 40s allegedly assaulted a male in his 70s outside a house inflicting minor lacerations to his hand with a knife.
The male then struck three pedestrians with a car while attempting to leave the scene. All three persons received minor injuries.
"Gardaí were called to the scene and observed the male in a car and signalled for him to stop and exit the vehicle.
"The car then collided with a Garda patrol car before Gardaí restrained and arrested the man."
