Man arrested after Cheesecake Factory promotion turns violent

A delivery driver has been arrested after a fight broke out at a Cheesecake Factory following a “free slice” promotion.

The chain restaurant in Arlington was offering a free slice of dessert if they ordered via the app DoorDash to celebrate its 40th anniversary.

However the promotion soon erupted into chaos when delivery drivers crowded the restaurant.

While outside, delivery drivers caused traffic mayhem by double parking.

According to the Washington Post, a fight broke out inside the restaurant.

Police arrested a man who refused to leave the store when asked.

Video footage shows the moment the man was detained by officers as customers looked on.

He was taken to hospital and will later be charged with disorderly conduct.

Arlington County spokeswoman Ashley Savage said that soon after “everything got back to normal.”

Officers stayed at the scene during the afternoon to provide crowd control.

A representative for DoorDash, the delivery company, said it was aware of the incident and is cooperating with local law enforcement.

Other social media reports said that the promotion had caused issues across the country.

Customers reported large delays in getting their cheesecake. One said that she had ordered her slice at 11.37am and it had only just arrived at 2.14pm.

Another wrote: “There was a lot of misinformation out there. It apparently went live at 11.30am local time where you live. I ordered at 11.30am and I will be waiting til 3pm to get mine. The stores are overrun with drivers.”
