Man arrested after cash drawer snatched in Newton Aycliffe newsagent robbery

A cash drawer was stolen from a County Durham newsagent during a robbery.

The incident happened at Stevens Newsagent, Neville Parade in Newton Aycliffe at around 8.10pm on Wednesday.

A man allegedly entered the store and made demands to staff to open the cash register, before removing the cash drawer himself and fleeing.

The cash drawer was located nearby a short time later.

The man in his 40s was arrested on suspicion of robbery, and later released without bail.

Newton Aycliffe Police said inquiries are ongoing and are appealing for information.

Anybody with information relating to the incident is asked to contact Durham Police on 101, quoting incident number 377 of September 2.
