Man arrested after car smashes into house in Newton Mearns

A man has been arrested after a car smashed into a house in a Renfrewshire town.

Officers from Police Scotland were called to Balgray Road, in Newton Mearns , in the early hours of Sunday, March 8 following reports a vehicle had crashed into a property.

As a result of the incident a man, 36, and woman, 40, were taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Glasgow where they were treated for their injuries.

The driver, 36, of the BMW vehicle was arrested in connection with the incident which took place at around 2.30am.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman: "At 2.35am this morning police and ambulance were called after a blue BMW crashed into a property on Balgray Road in Newton Mearns causing substantial damage.

"A male, female and two children who were in the property were not injured.

"The 36-year-old male driver was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Glasgow, as was the 40-year-old female passenger.

"A 36-year-old has been arrested in connection with the incident."
