Man arrested after car on fire on M74 as cops shut down road for five hours

A man has been arrested after cops were called to a burning car on the M74 this morning.

Emergency services raced to the motorway, northbound Junction 2, around 5am today following a report of a car on fire.

The slipway to Cambuslang Road was closed for over 5 hours as officers dealt with the incident.

The road later reopened before 11am and a man has been arrested in connection with road traffic offences.

It is understood there were no reported injuries.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called around 5am to a report of a car on fire on the M74 northbound junction 2 on Friday, 23 April.

"The slipway to Cambuslang Road was closed and re-opened around 10.35am. One man has been arrested in connection with road traffic offences.”
