Man arrested after car crashes into brook in Middleton

A man has been arrested after a car veered off a road and crashed into a brook.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the drama in Middleton on Tuesday morning after a white Seat Ibiza ended up in Wince Brook.

It is believed the driver managed to get themselves out of the vehicle.

A man was treated at the scene, arrested on suspicion of drink-driving and taken to hospital.

Pictures from the scene showed the vehicle semi-submersed in the water, with the airbags deployed.

The car appears to have left the road, crashed into a tree and then ploughed into the brook.

The incident happened at around 6.15am after the car left Peach Bank in Middleton and ended up in Wince Brook.

A spokeswoman for Greater Manchester Police said: "Emergency services attended and established a driver veered off the road into a brook.

"A man was arrested on suspicion of driving offences and taken to hospital for his injuries.

"Enquiries are ongoing."

A spokesman for the North West Ambulance Service said paramedics were called to the scene at 6.22am.

They confirmed one casualty was taken to hospital.

The current condition of the patient has not been disclosed.

Meanwhile police have appealed for any witnesses to the incident to come forward.
