Man arrested after Hearts star Barrie Mackay hit by bottle during Celtic clash

Cops have arrested a man after objects were thrown towards a Hearts player in a game against Celtic last night.

Jambos star Barrie MacKay was pelted by a plastic bottle while a coin was also thrown from the stands during the Celtic Park tie.

The former Rangers winger went to take a corner in the second half and was struck by the orange bottle as police gathered in one corner of the stadium.

McKay raised the issue with referee Bobby Madden during back-to-back corners, leading to a brief stoppage in play.

Now cops have revealed a 24-year-old man has been arrested while a report is submitted to the procurator fiscal.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “A 24-year-old man has been arrested in connection with items thrown onto the pitch during a match at Celtic Park during the evening of Thursday, 2 December.

“A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal and further enquiries are ongoing.”

Celtic won the game 1-0 in a controversial night with many believing the winning goal to be offside.

A dominant performance from Ange Postecoglou's side was overshadowed as both teams were left fuming with the officials.

The Celtic manager shut down questions over whether their goal should have stood post-match, while Hearts boss Robbie Neilson said he'd be jailed if he said what he really thought.
