A man has been arrested after a woman was found dead at a home in Ashton-in-Makerfield.
Police rushed to the address on Birch Grove in the village of Garswood at around 2.15am on Tuesday.
A 33-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Merseyside Police said a 31-year-old man from Ashton-in-Makerfield has been arrested on suspicion of murder.
He remains in police custody for questioning.
The woman has been identified and her next-of-kin have been informed, police said in a statement.
Detectives have launched an investigation and are carrying out door-to-door enquiries.
Det Insp Leanne Toole said: "A woman has sadly died overnight and we are appealing to anyone who may have seen anything suspicious or heard something in the early hours of this morning or last night to get in touch with police.”
