A man has been arrested after Black Lives Matter graffiti was sprayed on several buildings in Mullingar.
Pictures show the spray paint on a number of locations in the Westmeath town.
It comes after millions of people across the world have protested in the name of the Black Lives Matter movement after the death of American George Floyd in police custody last month.
And the snaps taken in Mullingar show the phrase "Black Lives Matter" written on at least two separate buildings in the town.
While the name of George Floyd appears to be sprayed on a third building.
Officers say the alleged criminal damage was carried out in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
And a man in his 30s has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident.
He will appear before Mullingar District Court later today.
A garda spokesman said: "Gardaí are investigating a number of acts of criminal damage that occurred in Mullingar in the early hours of yesterday morning, Wednesday 10th June.
"A male in his 30s has been arrested and charged in relation to these incidents and is due to appear before Mullingar District Court today, Thursday 11th June 2020."
