A man was arrested Thursday after he was caught breaking into a school in Grand Crossing on the South Side.

About 2:15 a.m. officers responding to a burglar alarm at a school in the 7800 block of South Ellis Avenue, met with an employee who saw security footage of a man trying to unscrew a camera in the main office, Chicago police said.

Officers went into the school and saw the man in the office, at which time he jumped out of a window onto the roof and then down to the ground, police said. After a brief foot chase, he was taken into custody in the 800 block of East 78th Street.

No one was injured in the chase, police said. Charges are pending.
