Man arrested after attempting to rob store with can of deodorant

A MAN who attempted to rob a Port Stephens business with a can of deodorant in broad daylight has been charged.

Police allege the man, 21, entered the store on Soldiers Point Road at Salamander Bay on Friday at 2.20pm, threatened a female attendant and demanded cash.

The man held a deodorant can at the 39-year-old woman and made further threats before fleeing the store empty handed, NSW Police said.

The man was arrested a short time later on Foreshore Drive, Salamander Bay and taken to Raymond Terrace police station.

He was charged with attempted armed robbery and armed with intent.
