A man has been arrested for allegedly throwing a beer keg through the window of a restaurant in Adelaide's CBD and then punching a police officer.

Officers turned up to the Original Pancake Kitchen in Gilbert Place about 3am after reports a man had smashed the front window of the restaurant with a keg, causing significant damage.

Pieces of glass hit customers inside the restaurant but none of them was injured.

The 26-year-old Findon man then allegedly punched one of the officers who responded to the incident in the face and then ran across King William Street.

He was then arrested in Rundle Mall and later charged with property damage, assaulting a prescribed emergency worker and hindering police.

The police officer who was punched was not injured.
