Man arrested after alleged assault at Rivett

A Canberra man will face court on multiple charges following an alleged assault outside a Rivett home.

An ACT police spokesman said officers were called to a Rivett home on Tuesday after the man, a 26-year-old, was alleged to have assaulted a woman in the front yard.

The man fled the scene in a stolen silver BMW with stolen number plates on it after police arrived.

It's alleged the man drove at a police car during the escape.

The car was found burnt out in Watson later that day.

After a tip-off that the man returned to the Rivett house on Thursday, police arrested him at the scene.

The police spokesman said the man was believed to have been involved in a number of incidents across the ACT since March 10 with investigations continuing.

Police charged the man with six offences including dangerous driving, using an offensive weapon to hinder his own detention, interference with a police car, failing to stop for police, not stopping to give assistance and breaching previous good behaviour obligations.

The man will face ACT Magistrates Court later on Friday.

Police will oppose bail.
