Man arrested after aggravated burglary with hammer in house in Co Donegal

A man has been arrested after allegedly wielding a hammer in an aggravated assault on a man and woman in Co Donegal yesterday evening.

A spokesperson confirmed that Gardaí arrested a man following an incident at a residence in Letterkenny, Co Donegal, on Monday, February 27.

"At approximately 7:55pm, a male entered the property in Glenard Park," a Garda spokesperson stated.

"The male, who was armed with a hammer and assaulted the occupants of the residence. A woman in her 40s and a man in his 20s were injured during the incident."

Following report of the incident, Gardaí located the male a short time later.

He was arrested and taken to Letterkenny Garda Station where he was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

This section of the act is relevant to any offence for which a person of full age and capacity and not previously convicted may, under or by virtue of any enactment, be punished by imprisonment for a term of five years or by a more severe penalty and to an attempt to commit any such offence.

Gardai said that the man has since been charged and is due to appear before Buncrana District Court this Tuesday morning.
