Man armed with machete spotted creeping around Liverpool park

A man has been jailed after he was found walking through a Liverpool park with a machete on Halloween.

Richard Green was stopped by officers who were on foot patrol as he walked through open land close to the city centre.

He was holding the blade at the time and surrendered when he was approached by police.

Officers came across Green in a park off Harker Street in Everton at around 9.25pm on October 31.

The Halloween night arrest was detailed by Merseyside Police's city centre neighbourhood team on Monday, following an appearance by Green in court.

The team shared a picture of the machete on Twitter and wrote: "Richard Green, 32, has today been sentenced to 16 weeks imprisonment for possessing a machete.

"Officers on foot patrol had located Green walking through a park in the L3 area late at night. Green had hold of the machete and surrendered to officers when challenged.

Green, of Prince Albert Mews in Liverpool city centre, was sentenced for possession of an offensive weapon.
