Man 'armed with machete barricaded in Paris building' as police surround scene

Armed police have rushed to a street in Paris following reports a man with a machete has barricaded himself inside a building.

Officers were called to the neighborhood of Pére-Lachaise this morning.

Locals had reported seeing a man holding a machete inside a metro station at around 10.30am GMT.

One witness wrote online: "There's a guy walking down the halls of Father Lachaise with a machete.

"I saw my life paraded not knowing if I should stay on the subway or run home."

The man is now barricaded inside a building, according to Le Plume Libre.

Operational Support Group officers are at the scene.

"Avoid the area of rue du Chemin Vert #Paris11," he tweeted.

"Support for our police officers mobilized at this very moment."
