Man 'armed with knives' shot and killed by police at caravan park

Police and ambulance were at the scene of the shooting.

A man was shot and killed by police at Deception Bay, north of Brisbane, on Monday after he allegedly confronted officers armed with knives.

Authorities were called to a caravan park on Deception Bay Road about 2:30pm and an investigation is now underway.

Inspector Craig White said the man had been threatening other residents before police arrived.

"Police attended this location in response to information a male person [was] armed with knives," Inspector White said.

"Police attended the scene and upon being confronted by this person discharged a number of shots, fatally wounding that person."

He said two police officers, a male senior constable and a female constable, were involved in the initial incident, however an investigation will determine if one or both fired shots.

"Currently the matter is being investigated by the Ethical Standards Command and investigations are continuing with police," he said.

"The family of the deceased have not yet been contacted.

"It's obviously very traumatic for the police officers and the victims and their families … it's a terrible tragedy for all involved."

He said the male senior constable suffered minor cuts but did not need to go to hospital.

Caravan park resident Tia Keasy, who does not know the man, said she was not surprised by the incident.

"I'm shocked, but I'm not surprised, because in the month we've been here there have been lots of police cars coming in and out all of the time, with people yelling in domestics," Ms Keasy said.

"Our son is four. He doesn't go anywhere in the park without us. Our neighbour called us and told us what happened."
