Man appears to rummage through restaurant's till on CCTV

CCTV appears to have captured a man rummaging through a restaurant's till moments after their windows were smashed.

CCTV from Jöro Vegan Eatery in Hamilton Square, Birkenhead, recorded the incident on January 23, 2022, which led to one of the businesses windows being broken.

The incident has been reported to Merseyside Police.

Over the last two months the restaurant and takeaway has been broken into three times, according to owner Sarah Blowers, 36.

The first break in happened on December 5 when somebody kicked down the front door before going straight to the till and getting away with around £500 in cash.

Sarah said: "The first time we were a bit lax with our security and they managed to get away with £500 because the float and an envelope for one of our suppliers was in the till.

"He completely smashed through the door so we got a new stronger one. Then he came back a second time and got through some how, the door looked like a giant cat flap.

"Our CCTV shows he tried to get into the till again but he didn't get away with anything as we learnt from last time."

The restaurant, with help from the building owner, made more repairs to the shop to after the second break in on December 12, but were sadly broken into once again on January 23 between 7.45am and 8.15am.

Sarah told The ECHO : "It seems he couldn't get through the door this time so came in through the dining room window.

"Because it happened in the morning the other people in the building heard the commotion and came down to see what was happening. They saw the guy and he made off.

"He didn't take anything but has broken the window and wooden shutters and because it's a Grade II Listed Building they will need to be repaired."

All three incidents have been reported to Merseyside Police and Sarah said they were "amazing" during the whole process.

She said: "They (police) have said it's the same person doing it and it looks like he's just after the same thing every time, cash.

"Merseyside Police have been amazing through everything and CSI have come to polish for fingerprints and footprints every time."

The business has now had a brand new security alarm installed to prevent being broken into again.

Jöro Vegan Eatery is asking anybody who noticed anything suspicious around the Hamilton Square Area between 7.45am - 8.15am on January 23, 2022 to contact them on Facebook.
