Man appears in court in connection with East Kilbride lorry hit incident

A man has appeared in court in connection with a late night incident in East Kilbride which saw a lorry hit a house.

Emergency services raced to the town's Lancaster Crescent shortly after 11pm on Monday night and two properties have subsequently had to be demolished.

Derek Wellington, 33, from Kilmarnock, appeared behind closed doors at Hamilton Sheriff Court.

He faces five charges including culpable and reckless conduct to danger of life and assault to danger of life.

A charge of dangerous driving under the Road Traffic Act, breach of a bail condition and a charge under the Criminal Justice and Licensing (Scotland) Act 2010 s38(1) racial prejudice are also listed.

He made no plea or declaration, was committed for further examination and remanded in custody.

Wellington is due to appear back in court in the next eight days.
