Man appears in court charged with Section 18 assault after man stabbed in back

A man has appeared in court charged with Section 18 assault after reports a man was stabbed in the back in Stalybridge.

Tony Combs, of Lodge Green, Dukinfield, was also charged with attempted robbery and possession of a bladed article.

The 38-year-old appeared at Stockport Magistrates' Court on Tuesday (June 24).

He did not enter a plea.

He has been remanded in custody to appear at Minshull Street Crown Court for trial on July 21.

Police were called to Portland Place, Stalybridge, on Sunday (June 21) to reports a man had received a stab wound to the back and that the suspect had fled the scene.

The victim was taken to hospital where he was treated for serious but not life threatening injuries.

A post on the GMP Tameside North and East Facebook page said: "On Monday afternoon, following enquiries and searches of a number of addresses by the Tameside District Tasking Team, a 38-year-old male was located and arrested on Caroline Street, Stalybridge, on suspicion of a section 18 assault (causing GBH with intent).

"Detectives from Tameside CID investigating the stabbing, interviewed the suspect and during the early hours of Tuesday 23rd June, charged the male."
