Man appears in court charged with hit and run at Drumcree parade

A man has appeared in court following an alleged hit and run incident at the Drumcree parade.

Conor Joseph Hughes, 32 and from Garvaghy Park in Portadown , Co Armagh appeared at Lisburn Magistrates Court where he faced a total of 16 charges.

The alleged hit and run occurred at the weekly Drumcree protest parade and is reported to have resulted in a police officer and an Orange Order member being struck by a car.

Among the offences Hughes appeared in court facing were aggravated vehicle taking causing injury to two people; failing to remain at the scene of an accident; dangerous driving; assaults on police; failing to stop for police; disorderly behaviour and driving while unfit.

The accused was released on bail after his court appearance on Monday.
