A man has appeared in court charged with attempted robbery after a masked raid at a Newcastle petrol station.
On Friday, July 17, police received a report of an armed robbery at the petrol station on Hillhead Parkway in Chapel House.
It was reported that a masked man had entered the shop at about 7.45pm and threatened a staff member with a suspected firearm.
A 28-year-old man has now been charged with a string of offences linked to the raid and appeared at North Tyneside Magistrates’ Court today (Friday, July 24).
Tyrone Roach of Deighton Walk, East Denton, has been charged with attempted robbery, possession of a firearm whilst committing an offence, driving with no insurance and driving without a licence.
He was remanded in custody by magistrates until his next appearance at Newcastle Crown Court on August 21. No plea was entered during the hearing.
Detective Inspector Mark Atherton, of Northumbria Police, said: “We have been working day and night on this investigation and we have now charged a man in connection with the offence.
“It must have been terrifying for the staff member and I know there will be residents in the area who were concerned about what had happened.
“Our enquiries will continue but I hope that this latest update offers some reassurance to the victim, and those who live in the Chapel House area.”
