A 41-year-old man has appeared in court in connection with an alleged knife attack and burglary at a house in Co Donegal.
Gabor Zsebi appeared at a special sitting of Letterkenny District Court today charged with a number of offences.
It followed an incident at a house in the Oldtown area of Letterkenny at 2am on Thursday morning.
Zsebi, a Hungarian national, appeared in court and his neck was heavily bandaged.
The court was told that Gardai would be objecting to bail but solicitor Frank Dorrian said he would not be seeking bail at this time for his client.
Detective Garda Sgt Joe Kealy told the court that Zsebi, of Riverdale Terrace, Oldtown, Letterkenny, was arrested at 7.31pm on July 2nd.
A number of charges were put to him.
He replied through an interpretor, “I didn’t break into the house, I had a key” and replied ‘No’ to the other charges.
He is charged with aggravated burglary and assault in the course of a fight and producing a weapon, namely a knife to intimidate another person.
He is also charged with assaulting a woman and causing her harm and also burglary during which he had a weapon, namely a knife.
Solicitor Frank Dorrian told Judge Pauk Kelly that Zsebi was now homeless and friendless and that he would not be applying for bail.
He asked for the case to be adjourned until next Monday, July 6th, for an appearance by videolink.
Mr Dorrian also requested that the accused received psychiatric assistance while in custody and this was granted by Judge Kelly.
