Man appears in court as cops continue to hunt Edinburgh hot-tub theft gang

A man has appeared in court charged with the alleged theft of hot tubs from a business near Edinburgh.

Alexander Nelson was arrested and charged over the weekend in relation to the alleged robbery last Friday night.

The Crown Office confirmed the 31-year-old appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday.

The hi-tech equipment disappeared from the Advanced Hot Tubs and Swim Spas yard in Macmerry, near Tranent.  

Company boss Kevin Higginson issued a fresh plea to track down the hot-tubs that were all destined for customers in time for Christmas.

He told us: “I would urge anyone out there to keep an eye out for these hot-tubs. They are very distinctive and we are keen to make them impossible to sell on.

“They were already sold to customers and were ready for shipping in time for Christmas.

“It would be great to recover them all as quickly as possible.”

A Police Scotland spokesman confirmed the arrest at the weekend.

They told us: “A 31-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the alleged theft of hot-tubs from a business premises in Macmerry, Tranent, on Friday 11th December.

“The man is due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday 14th December.”
