Man appears in court accused of murdering his brother in Midlothian

A Midlothian man has appeared in court on petition accused of killing his brother.

Luke Connolly, 25, suffered serious injuries during an early morning disturbance on Sunday, February 9, in Newtongrange, Midlothian.

Luke, from Newtongrange, was rushed to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment following the 4am incident but died in hospital a short time later.

Daniel Connolly, 27, appeared in private at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday where he was formally charged with murder.

Connolly, whose address is given as Dalkeith, Midlothian, offered no plea and he was remanded in custody.

He will return to court for a further hearing within eight days.

Following Luke Connolly's death, a Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Police can confirm a 27-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the death of a man in the Newtongrange area of Midlothian.

"A 25-year-old man was found with serious injuries at an address in Main Street around 4am on Sunday, 9 February, and was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary where he passed away a short time later.

"The 27-year-old man is due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday, 10 February."
