A man has appeared in court charged with attempted robbery following an incident at a village shop in Wrington.

Stewart Rickman, 31, of Ullswater Close, Weston-super-Mare, appeared before North Somerset Magistrates Court today (Monday) following an alleged attempted armed robbery at Amors store in Broad Street, Wrington on Friday evening.

Rickman is charged with the possession of an imitation firearm and attempted robbery.

He is also charged with possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and failing to provide a specimen for analysis.

Rickman did not enter a plea for the four charges when he appeared at court today.

He did admit a charge of destroying, smashing or damaging property of a value unknown at the hearing.

Rickman was remanded in custody and the case adjourned for Rickman to appear before Bristol Crown Court on February 3.
