Man apos;killed by Porsche driverapos; after hit-and-run in London

A man in his 60s has died in a suspected hit-and-run involving a Porsche sports car in south London.

The pedestrian was killed in the collision in Balham, south-west London, on Tuesday evening.

A man in his 50s is in custody after handing himself in a short time after the white 911 was found abandoned.

A police spokesman said the man was struck by the luxury car on Bedford Hill near the junction at 10.18pm.

Officers and paramedics went to the scene where the man, who has not been named, was pronounced dead.

The driver of the car had not stopped. When it was found nearby police confirmed it had not been reported as lost or stolen.

A 51-year-old man later handed himself in at a south-London police station.

He was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of a collision.

The victim's details have not been released, although police said they believe they know his identity.

Anyone who witnessed the incident - or saw the Porsche being driven prior to or after the collision - should call officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit at Merton on 020 8543 5157.
