Man apologises to cops for 'weed smell' and invites them into living-room with cannabis pile

Police sent to a house in Orkney on a lost property inquiry got more than they bargained for.

A man who answered the door apologised to the officers for the smell of weed hanging in the air.

He invited the officers in and they were confronted with a large pile of cannabis on the living room table.

The police in Orkney turned to Twitter to reveal their unexpected drug seizure and arrest.

The force’s tweet read: "Male reported last night for a drugs offence.

“Police were called to a house in Kirkwall for a lost property report last night.

“He apologised for the smell of drugs and then invited officers in.

“Large amount of drugs seized from living room table.”

The hashtag said: “ItsCalledDopeForAReason.”

Police Scotland confirmed the bizarre collar.

A spokesman said: “We can confirm a 22-year-old man has been charged with drug offences after a personal quantity of cannabis was recovered from a house in Kirkwall on the evening of Wednesday, 6 November.

“A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.”
